Maria Mourani appointed Québec representative to UNESCO
On December 5, 2017, Maria Mourani succeeded Julie Miville-Dechêne as Québec’s representative to UNESCO. Ms. Mourani was a member of Canada’s House of Commons from 2006 to 2015 and served as critic for public safety and national security, justice, heritage, status of women, and human rights.
Adoption of the joint declaration on the Internet and the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions in the digital environment by France and Québec
France and Québec reaffirmed the importance of the operational guidelines relating to the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in the digital environment. Both note that digital technology has a major impact on their societies and stress the importance of the principles of openness and accessibility of the Web. They subsequently targeted 12 actions they would like to collaborate on.
