La diversité culturelle en marche à l'échelle planétaire

DÉCLARATION FINALE de la Conférence d’Opatija du Réseau international pour la diversité culturelle (RIDC)

Opatija, le 16 octobre 2003 - 2003/10/16

At the conclusion of its fourth annual conference, held in Opatija, Croatia, from October 12 to 15 on the theme Advancing Cultural Diversity Globally: The Role of Civil Society Movements, INCD released a final statement hailing UNESCO’s decision to develop a convention on cultural diversity. INCD was particularly pleased that the culture ministers of INCP (International Network on Cultural Policy) had adopted its position to the effect that states must make positive commitments when ratifying and implementing the convention. However, INCD also expressed reservations about the new draft version of the convention reviewed by INCP at its 6th annual ministerial meeting. Concerns included provisions on relations to other treaties, promotion of cultural diversity, dispute settlement, and the rights of indigenous peoples. INCD reiterated its warning and called on all parties to ensure that the convention did not turn out to be an exercise in futility. ( Available in French, English and Spanish only )
