"La contrefaçon menace la création et la diversité culturelle": Paris et Washington unis contre le piratage, 24 octobre 2004

Following their meeting outside the 14th “Rencontres Cinématographiques de Beaune” , French minister of culture Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres and Mr. Dan Glickman, President of Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), stated: “Copyright infringement is a threat to artistic creation and cultural diversity, and ultimately will also harm the public by diminishing creative production. Urgent action coordinated with film professionals is thus essential.” They consider that “intellectual property protection is an artist’s fundamental right and is essential to artistic creation, and laws must be strengthened and adapted to take on new forms of counterfeiting.” They were also “pleased by the dialogue between film and Internet professionals initiated under the auspices of the French government” and hope it will “rapidly lead to a joint plan for developing a legal, viewer-pay delivery system, joint public education initiatives [...], and joint prevention and anti-counterfeiting measures.” ( Available in French ) [78]
