Journée mondiale de la diversité culturelle : "Promouvoir le dialogue entre les cultures"

UNICEF Suisse, Lausanne, le 21 mai 2004 - 2004/05/21

For UNICEF Switzerland, the UN’s invitation to celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development on May 21 highlights the importance of dialogue between cultures and will foster understanding of different traditions and ways of thinking and acting. For the occasion, it has joined with Orange Switzerland to create an award of 50,000 Swiss francs for promoting dialogue between cultures. All communities or private individuals with projects to promote understanding of other cultures among children aged 3 to 12 are eligible for the award. Through the celebration of this day, the UN has provided important direction in that it has placed mutual dialogue—over and above sex, age, nationality, cultural belonging, or religion—at the center of all efforts to create a world of peace, confident of its future. What’s more declares Ms Elisabeth Müller, Secretary-General of UNICEF Switzerland, “Only dialogue can serve as a foundation for a plural and cultural society, and integration and mutual understanding between cultures play a key role in this regard.”
