Financement de la culture et diversité culturelle : une nouvelle dimension à la coopération entre la France et le Québec

Revue de la presse des 4 et 5 mai 2004 – 2004/05/04-05

At the conclusion of discussions between French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Québec Premier Jean Charest in Paris, Québec and France agreed to step up talks on funding culture, particularly through increased private sector contributions. Mr. Charest and Mr. Raffarin took the opportunity to reiterate their shared desire for an international convention on cultural diversity by 2005, in light of UNESCO’s October 2003 commitment to develop within two years a convention giving states the right to defend and support their national culture. At a press briefing, Mr. Charest stated that Spain’s new government had announced its support for this convention. Accompanying the premier was Québec’s minister of culture and communications, Ms Line Beauchamp, who met with her French counterpart, Mr. Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, to discuss cultural diversity, the future of French-Québec coproductions, and the status of French in business. She also met with Mr. Jacques Rigaud, the head of Admical, an association that promotes corporate patronage in France, to discuss ways of fostering philanthropy and the cultural economy.
