"Faut-il démocratiser la mondialisation? "

M. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, président du Panel international sur la démocratie et le développement et Président de la Commission nationale des droits de l'Homme (Egypte), le 17 avril 2004 - 2004/04/17

“If we want to prevent yesterday’s Cold War from metamorphosing into a full-blown cultural confrontation or a war of civilizations, fueled by massive international migration and international terrorism, we need to defend cultural diversity and linguistic pluralism, which are as important to planetary democracy as multipartism is to democracy at the national level. Indeed, this is one of the main goals of UNESCO.” So spoke Boutros Boutros-Ghali, former secretary general of the UN and the Francophonie, addressing an audience on the topic “Faut-il démocratiser la mondialisation” (Arguments on democratizing globalization) as part of the UNESCO 21st Century Talks series organized by UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura.
