TV5, "un instrument fondamental pour la coopération multilatérale et l'expression de la diversité des cultures de l'espace francophone"

XVIIIe Conférence des ministres responsables de TV5, Québec, le 13 février 2004 - 2004/02/13

At their 18th Annual Conference in Quebec City, presided over by Ms. Line Beauchamp, Quebec’s Minister of Culture and Communications, the ministers responsible for TV5 stated that the network, “a unique international showcase for francophone television production,” is “a fundamental instrument for multilateral cooperation and the expression of the diversity of cultures in the francophone world.” This “operator for the Francophonie,” TV5, which is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year, has become the second most popular global television network, with 18 million daily viewers in 203 countries. It broadcasts French language shows into 147 million homes, 24 hours a day.  The ministers were thrilled with the performance of TV5, which was able to increase its global distribution, and embody “cultural diversity through an ever-growing identity.” In particular, they congratulated all of the players who have made this global channel one of the most visible and striking successes of the Francophonie.
