"De l’urgence de prendre des mesures pour garantir la diversité culturelle"

M. Roger DEHAYBE, administrateur général, Agence intergouvernementale de la Francophonie, 10 février 2004 - 2004/02/10

In this interview given to the Ivorian newspaper, Fraternité matin, during the sitting of MASA (Marché des Arts du Apectacle Africain), Roger Dehaybe, General Director of AIF, emphasizes that this project, which today stretches beyond merely the Francophonie and Côte d’Ivoire, “intends to promote designers, particularly Africans, in international trade, while ensuring that these artists are able to truly express their own culture.”  With regards to globalization, Mr. Dehaybe notes that for several years, international opinion has addressed the issue of the place of culture in international development policies and the urgent need to take measures to guarantee cultural diversity.  When asked, “Because of trade, because of the superpowers, will we have a single cultural model, a single audiovisual model, a single musical model tomorrow?” he stated that the Francophonie and UNESCO are responding today by working towards effectively mobilizing themselves to ensure a diversified tomorrow.
