The third session of the Intergovernmental Meeting of Experts on the preliminary draft Convention on the Protection of the Diversity of Cultural Contents and Artistic Expressions will take place at UNESCO from May 25 to June 4 in Paris. The intergovernmental experts will follow up the work begun on the preliminary draft convention's text on cultural diversity during the first two meetings, which reflects the progress made in the debates of the second session.
The first session of the intergovernmental meeting (September 20 to 24, 2004) brought together nearly 550 representatives of 132 Member States, two UNESCO permanent observers and representatives of nine intergovernmental and 20 non-governmental organizations. At the second session (January 31 to February 11, 2005), 135 Member States, six intergovernmental and 23 non-governmental organizations were represented. This third session will bring together representatives of Member States and observers, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations include the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The working documents the experts will examine at this 3rd session notably include: Preliminary Draft of the Director-General of 3 March with Appendix 1: "Composite" text reflecting the state of progress at the end of the Second Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting); and Addendum to Preliminary Report - Appendix 2: "Consolidated" text prepared by the Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Meeting (new version April 29, 2005).
