UNESCO draft Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions :"G uarantee the right of States to implement cultural policies preserving the diversity of their supply "

Last April 8, 2005, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Michel Barnier, received representatives from professional organization belonging to the French Coalition of cultural diversity for a review a few weeks before the opening of the 3rd round of negotiations on the draft convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural contents and artistic expressions who will be held on next 25 May at UNESCO . Mr. Barnier took the opportunity to confirm the importance of the process underway and the great ambition that must be shown in the future convention. He states, “It must very clearly reaffirm the unique nature of cultural goods and services and guarantee the right of States to implement cultural policies preserving the diversity of their supply. To do this, it must have true legitimacy in the international legal order.” [05-10]
