For a mass mobilization of as many regions as possible calling on governments to overwhelmingly and rapidly ratify the Convention - Declaration of Lyon - 2006/09/29

As part of the Interregional Conference held in Lyon on September 28 and 29, 2006, on the subject Regions and cultural diversity: European and global dynamic , organized by the Rhône-Alpes region at the behest of GERM ( Groupe d'études et de recherches sur les mondialisations ) and in cooperation with OPC ( Observatoire des politiques culturelles ) of Grenoble (see our Bulletin no. 31 of September 18), a number of conference participants came together to sign on their own behalf a declaration-the Declaration of Lyon-including "an immediate call for a mass mobilization of as many regions as possible calling on governments of the UNESCO Member States to rapidly and overwhelmingly ratify the UNESCO Member States of the international Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions" .

We note that this gathering was called for the purpose of "contributing to the implementation process of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions approved by UNESCO in October 2005 while providing an opportunity for transdisciplinary and transnational discussions."
