Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) - Resolution upon the Ratification of the UNESCO Convention, 2005/11/23

Following its 21st session in Madagascar on November 22 and 23, the Francophone Ministerial Conference (FMC) “recommends that the member States and Governments of la Francophonie and Unesco implement as soon as possible the ratification procedures of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and deposit the instrument of ratification before the Unesco Secretariat, without any delay, and in any event, before the next OIF summit in Bucharest, Romania in September 2006 ». For the FMC, this ratification aims at « making this text, in the best possible time, the groundwork of a vast legal scope fostering the development of cultural expressions and industries ».

The Francophonie includes 53 states and governments, including 29 African countries, 11 European Union member countries, and 10 “observer” countries, most in Eastern Europe
