The secretary general of La Francophonie meets with the premier of Québec

On Friday, January 18, 2008, the secretary general of La Francophonie,  Abdou Diouf met with Québec premier Jean Charest. A press release from the OIF (International Organization of La Francophonie) stated that Premier Charest began the meeting by discussing preparations for the upcoming summit of La Francophonie scheduled to take place from October 17 to 19, 2008, in Québec City, bringing the city’s 400th anniversary celebrations to a close.

Mr. Charest and Mr. Diouf also reiterated “the importance of TV5 for La Francophonie and its partners.” Together, added the OIF, “they highlighted the multilateral character of this francophone general-interest channel which is part of La Francophonie.”

The OIF closed by mentioning that Mr. Charest and Mr. Diouf also discussed the place of the French language on the international scene, in international organizations, and at the Olympic Games.
