First extraordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions

UNESCO has announced that the first extraordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions will be held in Room II at UNESCO headquarters in Paris from June 24–27, 2008.

The UNESCO dispatch notes that Decision 1.IGC 7 by the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions authorized its chairperson, on a transitory basis and until the modalities under Rule 7.4 of the Provisional Rules of Procedure—on the participation of nongovernmental organizations as observers during committee meetings—are determined by the committee, to request the director general to invite nongovernmental organizations having interests and activities in the field covered by the Convention to participate in the next two committee meetings, i.e., the first extraordinary session and the second ordinary session.

Under Decision 1.IGC 7, organizations affected by this rule that wish to participate as observers are kindly asked to send a written request to the committee chair:
