Culturesfrance suggests a meeting on “The Convention on Cultural Diversity: A New Era in the World Cultural Landscape?”

To highlight the second anniversary of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (which came into effect on March 18, 2007), Culturesfrance, in partnership with UNESCO, suggested a meeting on “The Convention on Cultural Diversity: A New Era in the World Cultural Landscape?”

According to the meeting website, “Culturesfrance, whose mission is to ‘link the cultures of the world’ and whose philosophy has evolved from cultural distribution to a true policy for defending and promoting diversity, believes that it is time to reflect on the convention’s initial effects.”

The event will be held April 27 at Théâtre national de Chaillot (where the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed). It will bring together a number of specialists on the subject for a discussion between prominent individuals who, through their actions and their experience, symbolize cultural diversity in France and around the world.

The program event indicates that UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura and Culturesfrance Director Olivier Poivre d’Arvor will speak during the opening of the meeting. Former French Minister of Culture and National Education Jack Lang will give the closing speech.
