The Australian government ratifies the Convention and underlines the importance of this action for its citizens.

Australia’s Minister for the Environment, Heritage, and the Arts Peter Garrett announced in a press release date September 23 that Australia has become a party to the Convention on the protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

Qualifying this act as an “important step in support of our diverse cultural heritage and a vital artistic life for our citizens,” the press release stated that “The Convention emphasizes that culture plays an important role in fostering international collaboration. It promotes tolerance and respect for all cultures, and encourages countries to take measures that protect and promote their culture, and allow and encourage a diversity of cultural expressions from around the world.”
