An international parliamentary conference on implementing and following up on the Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions will be held in 2011

The chair of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF) and president of Québec’s National Assembly, Yvon Vallières, has announced that an interparliamentary conference of La Francophonie on the diversity of cultural expressions will be held in winter 2011. The conference will bring together parliamentarians from across La Francophonie and will be held in Québec City, Canada, next February. It will look at implementing and following up on the Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

“As well as being an opportunity to take stock of how the Convention has been applied and the efforts invested to this end, the event will equip parliamentarians to promote the Convention and follow up on its implementation within their own national parliaments, with their respective governments, and with civil society,” said Yvon Vallières. “We sincerely hope that OIF and UNESCO will partner with this conference to ensure it is a resounding success.”

Mr. Vallières’s speech to the ministerial conference of La Francophonie is available in full (in French) on the APF website.
