Creation of a pan-African cinema support fund: A turning point in aid to Southern cinema

The Federation of African Filmmakers (Fepaci) and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) have joined together to create a pan-African cinema support fund “that could mark a real turning point in aid to Southern cinema,” according to OIF.

“This new pan-African cinema support fund seeks to spur broad support for Southern cinema, in addition to existing multilateral and bilateral funding, by fostering new partnerships, combining efforts, and encouraging an approach to filmmaking that is centered on the needs and aspirations of African audiences.

“The Francophonie is supportive of this fund whose objectives it shares: reaffirm that it is legitimate for Africa to develop its filmmaking capacity and provide it with the means to do so by leveraging complementary strengths and cooperation among the nations of Africa,” noted the press release.
