France committed to looking after cultural diversity

In a July 8, 2011 letter to Pascal Rogard, president of the French Coalition for Cultural Diversity, French president Nicolas Sarkozy reiterated France's position on excluding cultural and audiovisual services from the negotiations surrounding the Canada–European Union Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA).

Specifically addressing the potential risks to cultural diversity that could stem from including cultural and audiovisual services, President Sarkozy stated:

"[…] these services have been and will continue to be excluded from the negotiation mandate given to the European Commission by the Member States of the Union [and] France will attend to this point in particular in ensuring that this mandate is respected."
