OIF secretary general Abdou Diouf and the director of France 's École nationale d'administration (ENA), Bernard Boucault, signed a cooperation agreement on October 2, 2007, in Strasbourg , France , aimed at making civil servants in France and abroad more aware of new measures to promote the French language.
The agreement sets out measures for training and exchanges in the form of seminars, conferences, debates, and internships led by ENA staff. According to the press release, International Organization of la Francophonie (OIF) will manage and finance activities directly.
As the agreement was being inked, the secretary general noted that promotion of the French language and cultural diversity is a major priority of the Francophonie that takes the form of tangible programs. He concluded by saying, “This, broadly speaking, is part of our efforts to help the French language thrive around the world. It is something I firmly believe in, and I am convinced that by defending this cause we are also helping other languages have a voice on the international stage and promoting and defending the diversity of cultural expressions, which is essential to a more open and fairer world.”
