The Statistical Office of the European Union, Eurostat, has just issued a 192 page report entitled Cultural Statistics. It answers questions like these: How many arts students are there in the EU? How many writers and artists are there in the EU? Has the price of cultural goods and services increased more than average over the past few years? And what percentage of the EU population reads a book or newspaper in a foreign language?
The publication includes chapters on cultural employment, business and external trade, cultural spending and participation in cultural life, and cultural sites and museums.
