Results of the 6th ordinary session of the Conference of Parties

The 6th ordinary session of the Conference of Parties (CP) was held June 12 to 15 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Below are the main resolutions passed during the session:

Quadrennial periodic reports

  • Delivery of the Secretariat's second biennial Global Report on the Implementation of the Convention during the 11th ordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee (IC) in December 2017
  • Review by the IC of the operational guidelines for Article 9 (Informational Sharing and Transparency) and submission of the results during its 7th session

International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD)

  • Continuation of the fundraising and communications strategy by the IC
  • Reminder to the Parties to make regular, voluntary contributions to the IFCD equaling at least 1% of their total contributions to the UNESCO budget

Operational guidelines on implementing the Convention in a digital environment

  • Approval of operational guidelines on implementing the Convention in a digital environment

Future IC activities

  • Continuation of policy monitoring activities to assess the Convention's impact, with particular attention to articles 16 and 21
  • Identification of priority courses of action for best practices to implement the operational guidelines on the Convention in a digital environment
  • Exploration of concrete courses of action to effectively implement Article 13 (Integration of Culture in Sustainable Development), in support of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Election of IC members:

  • Election of Canada and Finland as IC members in Group I, of Croatia and Latvia in Group II, of Argentina and Colombia in Group III, of China and the Republic of Korea in Group IV, of Kenya and Mali in Group V(a), and of Egypt and Iraq in Group V(b)
