Cultural diversity - how can diversity be managed in a cultural society, by yogesh atal, former principal director of UNESCO

India – march 2003 – 2003/03

In this opinion paper, Mr. Atal asserts that managing diversity requires promoting the values of multiculturalism. He believes that to properly assess the many facets of media globalization, one must first understand them. In this respect, he notes that societies affected by globalization have in a sense become more open, even though some aspects of globalization are considered disruptive and dangerous to society. Mr. Atal maintains that “managing diversity does not mean erasing diversity. The challenge is to locate bonds of unity in an ocean of diversity.” (Available in French and English)
