Launch of the UNESCO Chair on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions

On November 17, 2016, the UNESCO Chair on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions was launched at Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, and Professor Véronique Guèvremont was named the chairholder. During the evening, the director and CEO of the Canada Council for the Arts, Simon Brault, gave a talk on “Creating a progressive and public digital shift.”

The launch was followed on November 18 by the chair’s first event at Université Laval. Organized in cooperation with Centre d’études sur les médias, a conference on the “Future of culture in the digital age and government challenges” brought experts and members of the community together. Attendees discussed:

  • New cultural consumption practices in the digital age
  • The government’s role in developing cultural policies that are adapted to the digital environment
  • Industry changes in today’s digital environment and the effects on Québec society
