Arterial Network's African Creative Cities will be launched in four cities in 2017: Harare, Zimbabwe, in May; Pointe Noire, Republic of the Congo, and Victoria, Seychelles, in June; and Nouakchott, Mauritania, in July. The cities were selected based on responses to a call for applications for 2016–2018.
Arterial Network's Creative Cities program undertakes to encourage cooperation and partnerships between local officials and people working in the field of culture in order to develop and implement arts and culture policies, strategies and programs in African cities. Arterial Network plans to focus its efforts on truly changing urban society, making culture and art the glue that binds people together.
The program will also boost the economy, both locally and nationally. It incorporates capacity building in cultural management, networking between creative cities, and cultural policy advocacy. Dr. Jenny Mbaye, researcher and lecturer in culture and creative industries at City University of London assisted Arterial Network.
