Cultural Policies in Africa : OCPA Action Plan , 2006/04/22

A round table about African countries strategies on culture gathered in Brussels, Belgium, on April 21, the Observatory for Cultural Policies in Africa (OCPA) and its partners, among which, the African Union (AU), UNESCO, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) and the Bantu Civilization International Center (CICIBA), as well as the Danish Cooperation, Ford foundation and the Maputo African Heritage School (Mozambique).

Upon that occasion, OCPA presented an action plan on cultural policies in Africa for the 2006-2010 period which would be widely modeled after the conclusions of the sixth Summit of the Heads of States and Governments of AU held in January in Khartoum , Sudan . This action plan defines six strategic objectives: the necessity of setting up a consistent research agenda on cultural African policies and training in that sector; the development of a good practices data base in such important domains as cultural rights, culture financing, protection and promotion of cultural diversity; the advantage for African countries to develop information services on cultural practices and the obligation to make methodological instruments available towards the design and implementation of their cultural policies; the need to incorporate and disseminate the permanent information policy and statistics and cultural policies trends; the obligation to encourage the establishment of regional cooperation culture networks.
