A New Generation of Filmmakers in Niger—ten young people try their hand at producing a documentary ─ 2006/11/20-30

During the first African Documentary Film Forum, which was held in Niamey, Niger, from November 20 to 30, 2006, UNESCO’s Global Alliance for Cultural Diversity funded a documentary filmmaking workshop for a group of ten youth with no prior filmmaking experience. After three days of theory covering the various aspects of cinematographic production, the students applied their newfound knowledge by producing a short documentary on the Forum being held simultaneously. Niamey’s African Documentary Film Forum is a biennial cultural event, created by the Niger Alliance for Cultural Diversity and presided over by the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Niger to UNESCO, His Excellency Mr. Inoussa Ousseini, and the Jean Rouch Foundation . The Forum’s first edition featured the theme “ Niger, between fantasy and reality.”
