European Film Awards—the Eurimages Award

For the first time, this European Film Awards ceremony will this year include a coproduction award—the Eurimages Award. In a November 8, 2007 press release, the Council of Europe added that the Eurimages fund has become a patron of the European Film Academy and created this reward for European coproducers “to acknowledge the decisive position that coproduction occupies within the European film industry.”

According to the Council of Europe, the first Eurimages Award handed out at this year’s Annual Award Ceremony of the European Film Academy to be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007 in Berlin will go to two major producers who have distinguished themselves by contributing to the development and promotion of European cinema, notably through coproduction: Ms. Margaret Menegoz and Dr. Veit Heiduschka.

Further information is available at www.coe.int/Eurimages.

EURIMAGES is a support fund for coproduction, distribution, exhibition, and digitization of European cinematographic works established by the Council of Europe in 1988. Since its establishment, EURIMAGES has supported 1,165 European coproductions for a total of more than €343 million.
