Coproduction and cinematographic cooperation agreement inked between France and Algeria

On December 4, 2007, France 's culture and communication minister, Christine Albanel, and the culture minister for the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Khalida Toumi, signed a coproduction and cinematographic cooperation agreement between France and Algeria.

The French minister noted in her press release that “films coproduced between both countries under this agreement will be eligible for the same benefits and assistance as national films. For a number of years, French and Algerian producers have produced movies filmed in Algeria without being able to enjoy the official status of coproduction or the financial benefits.”

The press release recalls that the agreement also looks ahead to cinematographic cooperation between the two countries, particularly with regard to training, heritage, and film distribution. Both countries are also to work together against audiovisual piracy.
