Cultural diversity

Cultural policies and measures - Best practices

The French language and the values of solidarity and cultural dialogue are celebrated as part of International Day of La Francophonie

During the event, Secretary General of La Francophonie Abdou Diouf delivered the following message to the international community: “Dare to imagine and even insist that the French language be used to ensure sustainable development and globalization that is better structured, more equitable, and more ethical, and to promote democracy, rights, and freedoms, as well as peaceful and fruitful dialogue between members of all religions and all cultures.”

In a press release, the OIF (International Organization of La Francophonie) states that around the world, “francophones are celebrating their language through music, dance, debate, contests, and even culinary delights […]. The events are as diverse and varied as the cultures that make up the French-speaking world.”

Many websites describe the celebrations to be held during the week and even throughout the month of March. For the full text of Mr. Diouf’s speech, the press release, and programs of events being held, please visit www.20marsfrancophonie.org and the Ministère des Relations internationales du Québec website.
