At its meeting in Paris on September 28, the Prix des cinq continents jury awarded its 2009 prize to Togolese writer Kossi Efoui for his novel Solo d’un revenant, published by Éditions Le Seuil. The trophy will be presented to him on October 24 at the Beirut Book Fair in Lebanon. Kossi Efoui was born in Togo in 1962. He studied philosophy there, before turning his attention to the theater. He has written around a dozen plays, which have been performed throughout Europe and Africa.
“The Prix des cinq continents was created by the International Organization of La Francophonie in 2001. It is awarded to a novel that describes a specific cultural experience that enriches the French language.
“No matter their literary pedigree, all authors writing in French are eligible for the award. It showcases cultural and publishing diversity in the French language on all continents,” notes the OIF website.
