Tous à l’opéra ! A European initiative to reach new audiences

On May 8 and 9, twenty-eight lyric arts institutions in France took part in an event entitled Tous à l’opéra !, aimed at introducing new audiences to the various lyric arts. According to a statement by France’s Minister of Culture and Communication published in Culture Communication magazine, this fourth edition focused on European opera and on showcasing crossover between art forms.

Opéra royal de Wallonie in Liège explored the ties between hip hop culture and the lyric arts, the Scottish Opera in Glasgow targeted youths aged 6 to 18, and Serbia’s opera invited the country’s various communities to showcase their respective cultures. Tous à l’opéra ! offered a variety of activities related to the lyric arts including tours, exhibitions, free admission to rehearsals, and meetings and workshops with professionals.
