The International Organization for La Francophonie (OIF) has announced its support for the participation of francophone artists at the 9th African Contemporary Art Biennale Dak’Art this May 7 to June 7 in the Senegalese capital.
“As part of its program for artistic mobility, OIF is supporting the participation of 14 francophone artists—painters, sculptors, drawers, designers—at the 9th African Contemporary Art Biennale.
“To mark the occasion, OIF has remitted a special Francophonie Award to a francophone artist at this international exhibition—Senegalese painter Barkinado Bocoum—consisting of an artist’s residency in Paris” stated OIF.
OIF also partnered with the 2nd edition of the African digital art festival Afropixel, taking place simultaneously with Dak’Art from May 1 to 21. Through installations, performances, debates, and workshops, both the general public and professional artists were able to familiarize themselves with these new modes of cultural expression and their potential as levers of sustainable development, education, and citizenship, while at the same time training sessions, creative residencies, working meetings, and networking for African artists and organizations sought to spur the development of digital tools and content on the continent.
