Biennial visual arts festival Regard Bénin 1.0 runs from June 8 to August 31

The inaugural edition of Regard Bénin 1.0 runs from June 8 to August 31, 2010. This first biennial visual arts festival will feature 15 exhibitions by artists from Benin, the rest of Africa, and abroad in disciplines such as plastic arts, installations, photography, painting, and sculpture.

“To mark fifty years of independence in Africa, the thriving arts scene in Benin, the quality of Benin artists … and the presence of a unique and vibrant network of private cultural structures, the first-ever edition of Regard Bénin 1.0 will be held in Cotonou as well as Porto-Novo, Abomey, and Ouidah in Benin.

Organized by Culturesfrance, the Benin Ministry of Culture, and the French embassy in Benin, Regard Bénin 1.0 is intended to be a festive event that is open to all. All exhibitions will be free, artist studios will be open to the public, an exhibition will explore soccer through the eyes of artists, World Cup games will be shown on big screens, and there will be open-air readings from African works,” according to the Culturesfrance website.
